A new career after furlough…
Social Care has always struggled to attract enough staff to fulfil the high requirements in a growing population and then with furloughing coming in to place and many of you out of work, Social Care was a new opportunity for some to try and help make a difference to those that need us most.
We wanted to share some of the positive changes with you all, and here is what one person who was new to care had to say ….
I love each day; the feeling of self-worth is amazing!
Tracey’s story
Never had I considered caring for a community or any other care work to be truthful. I had never thought too much about community carers. My mum had worked within the social care industry for many years and I often said, “I could never do what you do”, especially the tasks like bed baths and pad changes’.
My employment background had been within an office environment. Managing a busy office and having worked for the same company for over 20 years.
As like many others, my role had been placed on ‘Furlough’. I saw a vacancy on social media and thought ‘well what have I got to lose’
Now, I have my own round of service users, from all different walks of life. They all have differing needs and I help to fulfil them. I love each day. They look forward to seeing me daily and knowing that I have an impact on their day is a feeling like no other.
The feeling of self-worth is amazing, I am not just another number in the office.
Having worked in an office and for the same employer for over 20 years, Tracey took a chance.
Look for yourself, what have you got to lose?
