Please see the full letter here – Thank you from Carers UK 22.12.20
To The Platinum Care Solutions Group,
Thank you for your generous donation of £500 to Carers UK. Gifts from our supporters are
always greatly appreciated but are needed now more than ever during these unprecedented
times.
New research released to mark Carers Rights Day this year shows unpaid carers save the
UK state £530 million every day of the pandemic. The research estimates that the value of
care provided by people looking after older, disabled and seriously ill loved ones stands at
£135 billion, after just eight months. Quite simply, unpaid carers are unseen and
undervalued, particularly during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Previous research by Carers UK found that the majority (81%) of carers have been taking on
more care since the start of the pandemic and nearly two thirds (63%) are worried about how
they will continue to manage over winter.
Therefore, we are calling on the Government to
provide immediate support for carers, including:
● An urgent review of the carers breaks services, ensuring those caring for more than
50 hours a week have access to a funded break
● Increasing Carer’s Allowance, currently just £67.25 a week, by £20 a week, to match
the increase made months ago to Universal Credit
You can read the full press release here.
The festive period may be particularly challenging for carers this year, but we’re still here to
support them.
Our Helpline, available on 0808 808 7777, will be open as normal from
Monday to Friday, 9am-6pm, including Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s
Day.
“Thank you so much. I just didn’t have a clue where to start. I can’t thank you enough!” – A
carer supported through Carers UK’s Helpline.
Once again, thank you for helping make life better for carers.
Best and safe wishes,

Our Camberley Office Chose Shooting Star Children Hospice for 2020
Platinum Care Solutions Surrey – Shooting Star Children Hospice
This year our surrey team have chosen to support a local Charity called Shooting Star Children Hospice based in Guildford.
Our registered manager Brenda Smith recently went to visit the hospice to discuss their services and how we plan to support them in our charity efforts for 2020.
Brenda said:
“I spent a lovely afternoon at Shooting stars hospice in Guildford. I was made very welcome and enjoyed a slide show which gave us all the information about the fantastic work that all the staff provide within this very friendly beautiful home. We at Platinum Care Solutions Camberley branch are very excited to have chosen this wonderful charity. We have got lots of idea’s to raise vital funds over the next 12 months. We have set ourselves the target of reaching £1000 over the year and hope to exceed this if possible with our teams support.”
How Shooting Star Began:
Our story began as two separate children’s hospice charities. CHASE which was founded in 1994 and The Shooting Star Trust founded in 1995. In April 2011, the two charities merged to become Shooting Star Chase, with the two hospices Christopher’s in Guildford and Shooting Star House in Hampton able to provide more care for more children and families in London and Surrey. In February 2019 we updated our name to Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, to provide greater clarity about what we do.
Today we are a leading children’s hospice charity supporting over 700 children, and their families, throughout Surrey and across 15 boroughs of London, 365 days a year.
