The Great British Care Awards
The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout England and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector. The purpose of the awards are to pay tribute to those individuals and organisations who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.
It’s a great honour by any standard to be shortlisted for an award but particularly so when you’ve overcome personal challenges on all fronts. On Thursday the 3rd December, Kelly Bowles will be attending the Great British Care Awards in Brighton, where she is a South East regional finalist for the home care worker award. She joined Portchester based Platinum Care Solutions in May 2013 for what was her first job in the care sector having looked after two children who have been disabled since birth. Now aged 19 and 23, it seems remarkable that having cared for her children for so many years that she would want to enter the care profession, but that is just want she did.
Kelly said of her nomination:
“Caring for my children gave me a first-hand insight into how through passion and enthusiasm you can make a tremendous difference to the quality of someone’s life. I joined Platinum Care Solutions because I wanted to continue to make a difference and when you see the positive impact you can have, it is such a good feeling.”
What is even more remarkable is that Kelly has been diagnosed with Churg-strauss syndrome, a form of Vasculitis, which a degenerative illness which undermines her own well-being and at times limits her ability to be fully functioning.
She said: “I try and maintain a positive outlook and that is what sees me though. I take each day as it comes and for this reason this nomination is extra special for me.”
Jo Barry, Director of Platinum Care Solutions said: “Kelly’s spirit is truly amazing and she deserves to be recognised for the care she gives to vulnerable people, particularly when she has overcome so many challenges and now has her own personal battle to deal with. Everyone in the team is very proud of her.”
